During the first lecture a common theme appears in that how far new communication technology has advanced and how for granted we take these new communication technology. I personally reflected upon one of the slides that showed Raymond Williams remarks about new communication technology “suggests that when a particular technology is used in a social or cultural context it becomes a medium of communication” (Williams, Raymond 1975). This particular description of technology helped me to realise just how far we have come with new communication technology, none more then the mobile phone. Something that has become an absolute necessity in today’s society. Everyone needs one not only for work but for play as well. It is amazing to see the development of the mobile phone something that originally started off as quite literally a brick with an antenna at the top of it, to something that fits in the palm of our hand that is not only used to make calls but to surf the internet, to just about anything you can think of the mobile phone is a true testament to just how far new communication has come. Yet it does leave you wondering what exactly will come along that will make something that is so vital to us today but become redundant tomorrow. Only time will tell what sort of new communication technology will be used and become the new trend!!
